Nellore Chepala Pulusu (Fish curry)

Fish Curry – Nellore Style

Nellore style fish curry is most tastiest and famous recipe , tastes good with white rice and dosa.

Cooking time: 45 mins
Serves: 4-6 people.

Ingredients:

Fish pieces – 1 kilo
Tamarind – 100 grams (water 1/2 liter)
Chilly powder – 3 tea spoons
Salt – As needed
Turmeric – two pinches
Coriander powder – 1 tea spoon
Coriander leaves – As required
Tomato – 1 big one
Ginger – 2 inch piece
Mango – 1 small one

For tampering:

  • Oil – About 150 ml
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tea spoon
  • Fenugreek seeds – 1/2 tea spoon
  • Onion – 1 big one
  • Curry leaves – As required

Procedure:

Fish pieces should be cleaned and kept aside.

Soak tamarind in water.

Smash onion and ginger(not too fine paste).

Add oil to the heated pan, add mustard seeds (until they crackle), fenugreek seeds (until the color change), curry leaves, onion and ginger paste (until fried),tomato pieces (until it boils), tamarind juice, chilly powder, salt, coriander powder, turmeric (mix well) in that order.

Add fish pieces to above mixture and shake the vessel gently with out using a spoon, so that the fish pieces drowns and mixes well in the tampering.

When fish pieces are half cooked, add mango pieces.

Cook on low flame until the oil floats over the gravy.

Once done, turn off the flame, garnish with coriander leaves and you are ready to feast upon one of the Nellore’s famous dish.

Tip: Do not use spoon to mix once the fish pieces are added as it breaks them easily. Shake the vessel instead.
